||
|
As temperatures rise, local rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs, and other open water locations can seem like the perfect place to cool off. However, open water can be extremely dangerous, even during warm weather.
โ ๏ธ Cold Water Shock Water temperatures can remain much colder than expected, causing cold water shock, breathing difficulties, muscle cramps, and loss of strength.
โ Open Water Safety Advice If walking near water, keep dogs on a lead where appropriate and avoid entering the water to rescue them.
๐ If Someone Gets Into Difficulty Remember the RLSS Water Safety Code โ Call, Tell, Throw: Throw something that floats to help them stay above water if it is safe to do so.
โ Never enter the water to attempt a rescue yourself. Many rescuers become victims when trying to help others.
Let's enjoy the sunny weather safely and help prevent avoidable tragedies.
๐ Respect the water. Stay safe. Look out for one another.
